JOHANNESBURG – The Ministerial Advisory Committee on COVID-19 has not been disbanded.
Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize, says it has instead been strengthened.
Media reports suggested the committee was disbanded after several members received letters terminating their service.
The MAC was established in March this year and included physicians, pathologists and public health practitioners.
Mkhize says with the surge over, a more holistic approach is needed.
The committee will now include social scientists, nursing and ethics specialists.
The minister also denies ignoring the advice of the committee.
He says over 95-percent of its recommendations were implemented.
