PRETORIA – Former Free State Premier Ace Magashule has escaped the censure of the Public Protector, at least for now.
Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has released 14 reports on Wednesday into some of her investigations.
The matter against Magashule, now the ANC’s Secretary-General, stems from a complaint by the DA that Magashule twice violated his executive duties by misleading the provincial legislature.
The complaints against Magashule were laid by the DA’s leader in the Free State, Roy Jankielson.
The first is regarding the 2013 funeral arrangements of the late Free State Health MEC Fundiswa Ngubentoni.
Jankelson alleged Magashule lied about instructing the Fezile Dabi district municipality to cover the costs.
However, the Public Protector says otherwise.
Regarding the second complaint, Magashule has also been cleared of wrongdoing over a report by Treasury in 2015 on the appointment of a communications company.
But the report on the controversial Gupta-linked Vrede dairy farm project still has not been released because of delays.
