Are the X’s and O’s learned naturally when learning chords on a guitar?

Before you attack me, sorry if they are not called that but I will further explain what I mean. So as the C-chord is on a guitar there is an X that I guess it means that you do not play the E string or the thickest string when doing the C-chord, so my question was whenever you are playing will that naturally come to your mind that you shouldn’t play that one string if you have learned the basic chords?
