Stage 2 loadshedding implemented until Monday

Following further breakdowns of two generating units during the night, Eskom will implement Stage 2 loadshedding from 11:00 this morning (Wednesday 2 February 2022) until 05:00 on Monday 7 February 2022.

Since the weekend Eskom has utilised significant amounts of emergency generating reserves, which have now been depleted and need to be replenished. Eskom will use the loadshedding period to do so.

A unit each at Kusile and Kendal power stations tripped and delays in returning units at Kusile, Tutuka, Duvha, Lethabo and Grootvlei have also contributed to current supply constraints.

Total breakdowns currently amount to 14994 MW while planned maintenance is at 4435MW. Three generating units are expected to return to service by this afternoon.

Eskom appeals to all South Africans to help limit the impact of loadshedding by reducing the usage of electricity and to switch off non-essential items.
