Loadshedding reduced to Stage 1 until 05:00 on Monday

Friday, 06 May 2022: Due to the lower weekend demand, loadshedding will be reduced to Stage 1 from 22:00 this evening. Loadshedding will continue at that level until 05:00 on Monday. While the return to service of generation units has been rather slow, it is possible to reduce the stage of loadshedding during the weekend. Eskom will continue to monitor the system and implement any changes as required.

Since yesterday morning a generation unit each at Matla, Hendrina and Arnot power stations have returned to service. At the same time, however, a generation unit at Kendal, Kusile, and Matimba power stations were either taken offline of tripped. Further, delays in returning generators to service at Arnot, Kendal and three units at Tutuka power stations have added to the capacity constraints.

Eskom expects to rely on the use of emergency generating reserves to supplement available supply and to limit the stage of loadshedding during this period.

We currently have 4 323MW on planned maintenance, while another 15 985MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns.

Eskom would again like to remind the public that loadshedding is implemented only as a last resort to protect the national grid. We therefore request the public to continue using electricity sparingly to reduce the occurrence of loadshedding.

Tuesday, 03 May 2022: Due to a shortage of generation capacity, Eskom regrets having to implement Stage 2 #loadshedding from 17:00 this afternoon until 05:00 on Monday.
