Don’t miss July’s Supermoon
South Africans, don’t forget to look up tonight (Wednesday 13 July 2022) from 8:30PM to see July’s Supermoon. This will be the biggest, brightest and closest moon visible this year. The moon will be extra bright for the next 3 nights, so don’t worry if you miss it due to bad weather.
FastFacts:
-Supermoons by definition happen “when a full moon coincides with the Moon’s closest approach to Earth in its elliptical orbit, a point known as perigee,” according to NASA.
-Supermoons in general appear 17% bigger and 30% brighter than when the moon is at its farthest point away from Earth.
-Supermoons are slightly bigger and brighter than most full moons, too.
