Celebrating Rescue Excellence at the 2022 NSRI Awards Evening
On Friday 22 July 2022 the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) held its 55th Annual Awards Evening at the Premier Resort – The Moorings in Knysna.
The NSRI celebrated its dedicated volunteers and other individuals who risk their lives to save the lives of others on South African waters.
Always on duty to serve, save and protect, during the period 1st January 2021 to 31st December 2021, the NSRI conducted 1025 rescue operations, rescued 960 people and 41 animals.

Bravery Bronze: Jurgens Lubbe
For his brave actions on Saturday 9th October 2021 in saving 4 lives at Cape Vidal Bay, St Lucia KZN.

Meritorious Service Award: Station 40 St Lucia for the prompt and effective action taken by members of the station on 23rd October 2021 during the mass rescue of 20 kayakers in rough surf conditions at Cape Vidal Bay.

Meritorious Service Award: Station 5 Durban for the prompt and effective action taken by members of the station to assist, along with the national and local emergency services, in multiple flood-related incidents, along the KwaZulu-Natal coastline and inland, caused by heavy rainfall and the devastating floods in Durban and surrounding areas from the 11th to the 13th April 2022.

Meritorious Service Award: Station 20 Shelly Beach for the prompt and effective action taken by members of the station to assist, along with the national and local emergency services, in multiple flood-related incidents, along the KwaZulu-Natal coastline and inland, caused by heavy rainfall and the devastating floods in Durban and surrounding areas from the 11th to the 13th April 2022.

Meritorious Service Award: Station 32 Port Edward for the prompt and effective action taken by members of the station to assist, along with the national and local emergency services, in multiple flood-related incidents, along the KwaZulu-Natal coastline and inland, caused by heavy rainfall and the devastating floods in Durban and surrounding areas from the 11th to the 13th April 2022.

Meritorious Service Award: Station 39 Rocky Bay for the prompt and effective action taken by members of the station to assist, along with the national and local emergency services, in multiple flood-related incidents, along the KwaZulu-Natal coastline and inland, caused by heavy rainfall and the devastating floods in Durban and surrounding areas from the 11th to the 13th April 2022.

Meritorious Service Award: Station 41 Ballito for the prompt and effective action taken by members of the station to assist, along with the national and local emergency services, in multiple flood-related incidents, along the KwaZulu-Natal coastline and inland, caused by heavy rainfall and the devastating floods in Durban and surrounding areas from the 11th to the 13th April 2022.

Directors Letter of Thanks: Tristan Gaylard-Ralf for what you did on the 10th November 2021 when you assisted a man at risk of drowning at Murphy’s, Buffalo Bay.

Directors Letter of Thanks: Nathan van de Griendt for what you did on the 10th November 2021 when you assisted a man at risk of drowning at Murphy’s, Buffalo Bay.

Directors Letter of Thanks: Clint Craul for the decisive action you took, whilst aboard the Morgan Rose on 9th January 2022, where-by you altered course to assist a kayaker in distress off Cape Point.

Directors Letter of Thanks: Klaus Heinrich for the part that you played in rescuing a Grade 7 and a Grade 8 student from at Swartvlei beach, on the 17th March 2022.
