Eskom suspends loadshedding – for now

1 February 2025 | SANews

Eskom suspended loadshedding on Sunday morning after recovering sufficient emergency reserves, following a temporary setback that caused power cuts over the weekend.

The power utility reported that after a period of uninterrupted electricity supply, Eskom faced breakdowns that required repairs and full use of reserves. These reserves have now been replenished, with five coal-fired generation units repaired, adding 2,930 MW to the grid. Another 2,391 MW is expected to be restored.

Eskom also highlighted the positive impact of its Generation Recovery Plan, which has resulted in savings of over R16.30 billion in diesel costs. The utility assured that there is enough available capacity to meet the evening peak demand. However, issues with illegal connections and network overloading in certain areas persist.

Eskom has urged the public to help protect the integrity of the power network, by reporting any illegal activities to the Eskom Crime Line at 0800 112 722 or via WhatsApp at 081 333 3323.
