Safety hints: Report missing persons immediately

The investigation of missing persons is a priority for SAPS, and the public is reminded that there is no waiting period to report a missing person and the immediate response by the SAPS can save a life.

The following vital steps must be followed when reporting a missing person:
–         Report the missing person at your nearest police station immediately,
–         If possible, provide a recent photograph of the missing person,
–         Give an account  of the missing person’s last whereabouts as well as a detailed description of the clothes the person was last seen wearing,
–         Complete and sign a SAPS 55(A) form. This safeguards the SAPS from false reports and indemnifies the SAPS to distribute the photograph of the missing person,
–         Obtain the investigating officer’s contact details and keep him/her informed of any additional information,
–         If a missing person is found or returns voluntarily, inform the investigating officer immediately.
