Garden Route Police confiscate 484 litres of liquor

A clamp down operation on unlicensed liquor outlets in the Garden Route District resulted in the confiscation of 484 litres of liquor during crime combatting operations conducted in Oudtshoorn and George during the past weekend.
On Friday, 11 April 2025 Oudtshoorn police members operationalised information received from the public through a sting operation conducted in Bongolethu, Oudtshoorn. The team, armed with a search warrant, proceeded to the address where they confiscated 72,2 litres of liquor. A 42-year-old man was arrested on a charge of selling liquor without a licence.
Furthermore, on Saturday, 12 April 2025 George Crime Prevention members operationalised information and raided a premises in Blanco, George. The members confiscated 411 litres of liquor and arrested two men, aged 41 and 22.
The suspects who remain in police custody, are expected to make their first court appearance in the respective courts on Monday, 14 April 2025.
These confiscations are in line with the provincial policing approach to close down unlicensed liquor outlets also known as shebeens. The operations will be sustained in an effort to eradicate alcohol abuse which remains one of the contributing factors to serious and violent crimes, especially over weekends.
