The Madlanga Commission will go into recess from Thursday, 3 September to Friday, 11 September 2026, with public hearings expected to conclude for the week on Wednesday.
The Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System is now expected to submit its final report to President Cyril Ramaphosa on 16 November 2026, after its deadline was extended from the end of August.
Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels said the seven-working-day recess would allow two commissioners to honour prior commitments. The Commission’s senior officials and extended team will continue working during the break ahead of the resumption of public hearings on Monday, 14 September.
The Commission was established to investigate allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi in July 2025 concerning criminality, political interference and corruption in the criminal justice system.
Two interim reports have already been submitted to President Ramaphosa.
