Twenty-one people have died in a horror crash on the N1 between Prince Albert and Leeu-Gamka in the Western Cape.
The crash happened early on Monday and involved a Toyota Quantum taxi and a Suzuki Brezza SUV.
The Road Traffic Management Corporation says the death toll could still change as emergency teams continue working at the scene. The cause of the collision has not yet been established and remains under investigation.
Western Cape Mobility MEC Isaac Sileku is expected to visit the scene, which remains closed due to the severity of the crash.
Motorists have been urged to avoid the N1 between Laingsburg and Beaufort West and use alternative routes where possible.
The Western Cape Health Department says medical teams are also caring for those injured in the collision.
