Western Cape Police launch an investigation into circulation of horrific video

Police in the Western Cape launched an investigation into the circulation of a horrific video taken on an accident scene at the entrance to George along the N9 on Friday, 19 April 2024 which claimed the life of a 41-year-old man.

The internal investigation aims to determine whether the video was taken by police officers who responded to the scene. A senior officer attached to the Garden Route District was assigned to the matter. Upon conclusion of the investigation if any SAPS members are implicated consequence management will follow.

Whilst the investigation is underway, the police want to appeal to the public to refrain from circulating this video on social media platforms due to the sensitive nature of its content and also out of respect for the bereaved family.

Western Cape police management consider this matter as serious and condemns the circulation of the video. The necessary steps will be taken if found that police officials are involved.
