President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared Wednesday, 4 November 2026, the date of the Local Government Elections, a public holiday across South Africa.
The Presidency says the holiday will allow registered voters to exercise their democratic right and vote for local representatives.
Voters are reminded that they can only vote at the polling station in the ward where they are registered. Votes cannot be transferred to another ward if voters travel on election day.
The President has also urged employers to make provision for employees to exercise their constitutional right to vote on 4 November.
